Drawing

The Experience of Drawing

(Afternoon Elective)*

Drawing has been used by many artists as an idea generator or as part of their preliminary work in other art genres, but drawing itself includes potential for the making of great art in its own right.  This whole elective is about exploring the exciting things we can do with drawing.  Learning to draw accurately from observation is a vital skill to have, but beyond that there are the aesthetic and spiritual qualities of mark making and the use of all sorts of different media.
This elective whilst exploring a range of different media, subjects and techniques will also include a focus on Life Drawing on one of the afternoons. Life Drawing from the human body has a long tradition in art.  While we will be working to improve our observational skills in drawing, we will also seek to develop some more resolved artworks where the human form is the central theme and subject.  For me, as an artist, drawing people is a spiritual quest in communicating something about human nature and the beauty of who we are.

Participants can indicate their preference for an alternative still life session on the Life Drawing afternoon if they wish. We recommend that participants under 18 register with a supervising adult for this elective.

*Please not this elective attracts an additional fee of $30 per person to help cover the cost of Life Drawing Models and materials. When registering online, please make sure to select the add-on Drawing elective fee.
